Sad N5550 booting error
Posted by: mlino - 01-31-2018, 04:46 AM - Forum: N5550 - No Replies

Hi everyone!

I have shut down my Thecus N5550 in the begining of the month due to vacation. When I returned and turned it on I noticed that it stopped on the self testing message.

I attached a monitor and a keyboard and realized that there are an error due to a missing file as shown in the attached images. How can I fix this issue?

    - Booting

    - Error message

I have opened a ticket on the Thecus support but seems that is not working anymore becouse I got no help from them until today. I need to fix this issue, since I have some important files on my N5550.

4520 and how to get current firmware operational.
Posted by: spill - 01-27-2018, 10:01 AM - Forum: N4520/N4560 - Replies (1)

I've had my 4520 since the month it came out.  Only upgrading on occasion, but after over two years of uptime and issues with Data Guard not letting me execute a job that has been set up before to back NAS contents up to an external source, I decided to try and upgrade.

That might've been a poor decision.  I've had to manually fix at least two http conf files to get the web interface functional again because of the poor updates that were installed via a firmware suggested, downloaded, and applied from thecus.com.

The NAS is currently running:
THECUS OS6 N4520 OS6.1.25 nvm

The upgrade icon in the web interface is still flashing, though the version it wants to upgrade to is the same version I have.

Looking at logs, it appears that the ftp url that's configured in the Thecus packages isn't even valid anymore.  Here's some console output.

Quote:http://ftp.thecus.com/ThecusOS/release/6...repomd.xml: [Errno 14] HTTP Error 404 - Not Found : http://ftp.thecus.com/ThecusOS/release/6...repomd.xml
Trying other mirror.
Error: Cannot retrieve repository metadata (repomd.xml) for repository: pkg. Please verify its path and try again
[root@nas ~]# uname -a
Linux nas 2.6.39-1.ce24.t1.i686 #1 SMP PREEMPT Wed Dec 10 00:02:24 CST 2014 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux

is there anything I can do at this point to get to the latest (possibly final supported) release of the "firmware" for this NAS?

Thanks for any advice.

  OS Change on W4000
Posted by: bkl63 - 01-24-2018, 01:16 AM - Forum: NAS from 2 to 5 bays - SMB - Replies (1)

I've been toying with the idea of an OS change for a W4000 as the Windows NAS just doesn't like working with Mac's and that happens to be the majority of the Environment the W4000 is in.  Anyone try anything like FreeNAS on one?   Does Thecus' Linux NAS work on one?

Correct procedure for FIXING and expanding RAID5 set
Posted by: platypus - 01-19-2018, 11:37 PM - Forum: N7510 - Replies (2)

Hi all,

Happy New Year!

I have a N7510:

  • 7 x 8TB HDDs which are on the HCL in a RAID5 configuration
  • One of the HDDs is degraded
  • It is currently switched off
So what I am planning to do is turn on N7510 AND THEN replace the degraded 8TB HDD with a 12TB HDD which is on the HCL (Seagate  ST12000VN0007 12TB IronWolf).

So then I will wait until the RAID is rebuilt.

Then I will replace each of the old 8TB HDDs with the new 12TB HDDs, waiting for the RAID to be rebuilt. (As they are out of warranty, etc.)

  1. Is this the correct procedure?
  2. Should I upgrade firmware after I replace the degraded HDD?
  3. I am assuming after I replace the 7 HDDs the capacity will got from 48TB to 72TB. Is that correct? There is no issue with EXT4 limit being reached?

THANKS!

[N4560] Upgrade to a new Nas
Posted by: pitipilot - 01-11-2018, 05:33 AM - Forum: N4520/N4560 - Replies (3)

Hello there Smile,

I want to upgrade my Nas system to another Nas.
My System is :
- N4560
- OS6.build_341.2
- 4x WD 4TB in RAID 5 (12 TB availables, no spare disk)

It seems that my nas will die soon.
I'm afraid to lose all my datas that's why I want to upgrade to another Nas.

My question is :
- What kind of model I should choose if I want to preserve all my datas ?

Bye.

BAFFLED!!! N4520 displaying very bizarre behaviour
Posted by: DeNiro - 01-07-2018, 04:05 PM - Forum: Others - Replies (1)

Hi all.

I had the NAS turned off for a while and now when I boot it it'is behaving very strangely. Seems to take forever to boot and when it has, if you press the power button, you only get the option to shut the NAS down or not. Pressing any other buttons does nothing.

When I connect to it via a browser, the backups I had created to backup to another NAS (not Thecus Confused ) no longer work. When I look at the config for each of them, the path for each folder gets preceded by a number. For example, if I had three folders called Tom, Dick and Harry, if I go to either edit those backups or create new ones, the folders now read 1Tom, 1Dick and 1Harry. If I reboot the NAS those folders then change to 2Tom, 2Dick and 2Harry, yet if I browse to the locations through Windows Explorer, all the folder names and Shares are exactly as they should be! Got me completely baffled!!

Anyone experienced this and can shed some light on it for me and how to resolve it?

Thanks.

Bob.

  Dossier publique en lecture seule
Posted by: mquisuisje1 - 01-05-2018, 10:59 PM - Forum: Général [French Support] - No Replies

Bonjour,

N4520 takes about 90 min to boot up
Posted by: bluebaer33 - 01-03-2018, 06:18 PM - Forum: N4520/N4560 - Replies (1)

Hello
since a week my N4520 ( OS6.build_341.2  with 4 Seagate 3TB NAS harddisks)  does take about 90 min from power on to be available on the Net.  When I tried to access the officialNAS application pane, the system would come back with aq message, that it is in an 'offline mode' and thre is no possibility to add or remove any applications.
Is there a possibiilty to upgrade the system to the OS6. ?  Or are there other possibiilities to get tthe system back to a stable sworking status again?
due to the significant number of issues, which occures recently with this device, The data is well backed up.  So if I need to swipe off all data would be still OK for me.
But the Box has been too expensive to put it tot he garbage collection already after 4 years.
Please could somone tell me, what options do exist.

Accurate copy of the message:
The offline mode could only update system file or install NAS application. Any other activity such as remove NAS application could operate while Internet access is available.

Thanks alot for your help

Bluebaer33
