Hi Thecus Forum,
I´m pretty new to Thecus as a brand and I just bought a N5550 and equipped it with 5x2TB HDD´s.
My old NAS was a dlink 2bay 320, it was just used as backup storage.
My N5550 is going to be my PLEX server, TimeMachine Backup server for my Girlfriends Mac and probably also my Home "Skydrive" if I get the upload I want from my new carrier. In addition I will use it as iSCSI drive for my Game Rig and this PC will loose all his HDD´s and operate only on SSD. So far so good.
I´m really happy with Thecus so far, almost everything worked out of the box with little configuration. But I still have two questions:
First: As this is going to be my "ONLY" storage solution I´m a little worried about the OS6 update. Right now only test data is copied onto the NAS, because I´m still trying a little arround and test this and that. I also read the OS6 update will cause a full wipe so my question is:
When do you think OS6 will be released for the N5550? If all my data is on the NAS, I have no option to copy the data somewhere else to do the update. If my NAS is running, this will be a long term solution so I want to be sure what my next steps are.
Second: ATM only PLEX is running (0.9.8.6.175) with the two Fajo ModeBase1 1.04.01 (for pkill command) ffmpeg 220.127.116.11+ mods. I have one RAID 5 with 8 TB usable and Time Machine (AFP) is running as a service as well. Scheduled ON/OFF is working fine. But the HDDs are NEVER going to sleep. I tried some solutions I read here in this Forum, but nothing worked. I´ve done so far: Disable Wake on Lan, Disable all services, disable PLEX, disable Samba, Start NAS and do not access it, disconnect all LAN cable..., Factory Reset, change spin down time... etc
(yes some of them are stupid because it makes the NAS useless.
But I was searching for errors.)
After all, the HDD´s never spin down, no matter what I do.
