W5000 bios update
#1
Recently Thecus support suggested I install the latest bios version WCDV_04 from
<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.thecus.com/Downloads/BIOS/">http://www.thecus.com/Downloads/BIOS/</a><!-- m -->

In my server I have 4GB RAM as a single DIMM. After flashing the bios with WCDV_04, only 2GB was recognised (system settings).

I reverted to bios version WCDV_02 but needed to perform these steps to have the full 4GB RAM recognised again:
1. power off
2. remove DIMM
3. power on
4. power off
5. insert DIM
6. power on.

Is there some remnant of bios config (particularly regarding RAM) that doesn't get reset/replaced when flashing a new bios version?

Hi Lasersage,

We tested W5000 with 4G RAM and BIOS ver. 04. It is no problem to recognize 4G memory...
Would you mind submit a support ticket to http://esupport.thecus.com/Tickets/Submit

Best,

During recent maintenance I upgrade the bios to ver 04 and again only 2GB of the available memory was reported.

I removed the 4GB DIMM, power cycled the server and then replaced the DIMM (only slot 1 is suited to a single DIMM).

Upon power up the server reported the full 4GB memory Smile

As stated in my OP, the bios seems to be holding come configuration information which is only cleared by a power cycle.

While setting up another W5000 I upgraded the memory with an additional 2GB DIMM.
As before, the BIOS did not immediately recognise the extra memory.
I needed to remove both DIMM, restart, power down and reinstall both DIMM.

Thanks, hope to give it a go when I get my box back from the RMA. Perhaps this is what I need for my "hanging" issue !!
