Grow a Raid with different size Harddrives
#1
LimeTech unRAID
Allows mixing and matching drives
Unlike traditional RAID systems, with unRAID your hard drives don’t need to be the same size or speed. In fact, any combination of IDE/SATA/SAS hard drives and solid state drives may be used (compatible drives listed here).
With most RAID systems, this is a very big deal if you are faced with a recovery scenario. This is because if any of your hardware fails (e.g., RAID card, motherboard, CPU, RAM, disk controller, disk drives, power supply, etc.), you have to replace with the exact same hardware. Good luck sourcing this in a hurry as it may be hard to get as well as expensive. With unRAID, you won’t have to deal with this hassle.

Synology Hybrid RAID
The SHR is an automated RAID Management system, designed to meet the needs of easy deployment of a storage volume. The SHR is designed to meet the needs for those users who do not care or do not want to know what are the finer aspects of the various RAID-levels which are currently supported on the DiskStation, and would like to use the SHR to handle RAID management, storage expansion and maximize storage capability. The SHR allows for 1-disk worth of redundancy - meaning that the SHR volume can suffer the lost of one disk, and the data volume will still be available for use

Drobo BeyondRAID
Drobo’s BeyondRAID technology solves the fundamental issues that traditional RAID can’t. Built on the foundation of traditional RAID, BeyondRAID adds a layer of virtualization that chooses the correct protection algorithm based on data availability needs at any given moment. Since the technology works at the block level, it can write blocks of data that alternate between RAID protection levels.
If you need to add storage capacity to a Drobo, simply insert additional disk drives or replace the smallest disks with larger ones – no need to change RAID levels, purchase a new storage array, or go through the complex administration of pooling RAID groups.

I would like grow my RAID not requiring to buy 3-5 dives to start.
