This looks great! But to confirm, this does not work on N7700PROv2? Could it be modified to do so?

For what it's worth, I'm trying to fix an issue with "Self Testing..." on a newly replaced motherboard that might be DOA. Thanks Smile

Hi, no you cannot because there is no video output, necessary to make it boot on USB.

the handle should be for x86 and V2 to remove the DOM to let the USB Boot and hot plug it (a bit dangerous)

Hi,

i have a N8800Pro V2, which hangs on "self testing ...". I think the DOM is corrupted. I send my NAS 4 times to thecus in the last 1,5 Years. All i did, was to power off the device. When i started the device again, it hangs on "self testing ..."

Now i want to try to recover the DOM by myself. If i am right, i have to plug out the DOM an boot the N8800Pro V2 via the Restore-USB-Stick and hotplug the DOM. After that i have to restore the DOM with DD. Is that right?

Which Image File i have to select for the N8800pro V2?

•Thecus_SATA_x86_64_DOM.2.04.05b
•Thecus_USB_x86_64_DOM.2.04.05b
•Thecus_SATA_x86_64_DOM.2.04.05b.cdv

Thanks and best regards,

Krischan

Updated to 2.05.06 Wink

only for x64 version with Video Output

for other models (V2 and x86 NAS) you have to remove the DOM and upload the right DOM image (from the SMB Share or WinSCP) and hot plug your DOM once my DR booted (I am not reponsible of any bad handle)

Super !
Thanks alot, Saved my NAS with this nice DIY-tool.

Just a heads up (for other people), with new release some things have change in regards to the manual:
- static ip for me was 192.168.1.100 (and not 200)
- DOM's were in /DOM (and not /root/DOM)
- Selecting the correct DOM was educated guess based on information in manual.

Great work !!

you are welcome Wink

yes i made some change since last revision, also a share is automatically created let you upload new DOM image, and you can access over SSH with hostname instead of IP, more reliable

Well done.

Worked a treat.

Used this to roll back from OS7. The recommended protocol didn't work for me (don't know why). This did. Nice one.

I am trying to recover data from an n8800pro v2 which is hanging on self test
I have managed to get vga/video terminal output using
<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="https://www.andymillar.co.uk/blog/2010/04/11/installing-linux-on-a-thecus-n8800pro/">https://www.andymillar.co.uk/blog/2010/ ... -n8800pro/</a><!-- m -->

Following the instructions and using both the two images available for download,
2.04.05b and 2.05.06, I have created 2 bootable USB memory sticks

The stick is recognised as a boot device but boot fails with the message:

Decompressing Linux
XZ-compressed data is corrupt
-- System halted

What gives?
Any suggestions?

(I know all my 8 drives are fine. I just need a working n8800pro V2 to read the data once and copy it safely but its hard to find a working used or new one any more on ebay. Would the drives be readable if moved carefully maintaining drive order to a 8900pro?)

Thanks in advance

Did you tried with another USB, formatted as FAT32 before you write the image ? Also if you have 2 x DIMM inside, try to keep just one (maybe one is broken)
Find here newer DOM image 2.05.12 and the manual

Not sure if you were able to boot already, but note that you would need this DOM Image for the N8800PROV2:
<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://download.thecus-eu.com/DOM_recovery/Thecus_PATA_x86_64_DOM.2.05.12.1.zip">http://download.thecus-eu.com/DOM_recov ... 5.12.1.zip</a><!-- m -->

Don't think this image is inside the OS recovery file (only SATA and USB versions).

You can use a N8900PRO to detect the RAID from a N8800PROV2.
Kind regards,

Wouter
