[Question] Install a driver for a NIC?
#1
Hi people

I've got the TopTower N8850 running x64 v2.04.01.
I recently got a hold of a couple of HP NC522SFP 10G NICs and I'm now starting to investigate if I can get one of the cards to work in the N8850.

Has anyone ever tried installing "custom" (HP) drivers on a Thecus NAS and is it even possible at all?

I can see that the following drivers are availiable from hp.com:

http://h20566.www2.hp.com/portal/site/hp...id=3913538

Red Hat and SUSE - both of the are the .rpm format, i take it that the NAS will not accept those?

Thanks for any suggestions Smile

this HBA are not compatible

here is the compatibility list

<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.thecus.com/download/compatibility/nic/N7700PRO%28V2%29_N7700Plus_N8800PRO%28V2%29_N8800Plus_N12000Series_N16000Series_N8900Series_WSeries_TopTowerSeries_Extra_NIC_list.pdf">http://www.thecus.com/download/compatib ... C_list.pdf</a><!-- m -->

the drivers needs to be cross compiled and loaded by a third module which can be done, but HP dont give the source driver

but i am not sure, once this is done the HBA will display within the Thecus Webui...

Hi Stéphane

Thanks for the reply.

Yeah, I've already checked the compatibility list.
I will try to investigate the cross-compile suggestion, but I'm not used to Linux, so it might very well end up with me giving up.
I know and accept that stability might be affected by this, but I'm not using the NAS for production, so I'm willing to give it a shot. Smile

If you have any suggestions/guide lines, please let me know Big Grin

Hi Stéphane

Sorry for the late reply! Awesome, thank you very much! That'd be great if you'd take a look at it Smile
From the HP website I can download a source code RPM file for the NIC for the following *nix systems:

http://h20565.www2.hp.com/portal/site/hp....492883150

Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 (AMD64/EM64T)
Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 Server (x86-64)
Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 Server (x86-64)
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 (AMD64/EM64T)
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 (AMD64/EM64T)
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 9 (AMD64/EM64T)

(x86 removed)

Note: HP website is incredibly slow and sometimes fails with an error.

Is it possible to do something with those?
If you tell me which one, I can download it for you.

Best regards

I dont think it is possible, we need the real source package to be compiled with the kernel Header

Okay, I will try to see if I can find the correct source code.
Perhaps Qlogic has them availiable, as the NIC is based on that processor (NetXen 3031).
