troubles connecting with explorer win 7
#1
hello,
first i had troubles with my nas (malfunctioned DOM) after changed it trough Thecus Support, it installed the raid 5 very well.
So installing the software from thecus on my pc and i can browse the server.
Gave the server it's ip adres, and subnet included its gateway in the same envirement as the computer.
So when i'm searching after the NAS i , can't find it. What is the setup, using 4 directrory's for every person n the house here, ik did created them, gave them the write or read function, but i don't find them trough the explorer.
Cant see the NAS at all, i'm sure that i forget somthing stupid but what. who can help me?

thanks already

P.S. the nas is a N5550 with raid 5 western red 3gb (3times)

Hi Werner,

one more thing i can add here to the Points i already posted in your other thread.

Can you try to Access the NAS/Share Folders thru WIN Explorer by using the URL "\\*NameofNAS*" - like "\\N5550" if N5550 is the Name of the NAS?

Hi Werner,

On Windows computers I search the network tab under Explorer were I can find the NAS (N4200ECO). I then map a driveletter to the specific folder (which I made for every "user").

I ran the setup wizard that (for the N5550) I found here:
http://www.thecus.com/download/driver/Se...indows.zip

After confirming the IP address of the NAS, I opened Explorer and performed the following navigation steps:
Network > N5550
This revealed the various folders that are readily accessible. I then went and mapped the folders I was interested in by opening the context menu (i.e. right click) and then selected "Map Network Drive".

Should be straight forward.

Hi Werner,

have you already figured this out?

if not, there are a few steps you can do to check the connectivity.
I assume your physical connection is working since you were able to setup the NAS using the software.

If you did not have it working try these steps first, and post your results, depending on the results other steps can be done

* first test is if you can reach the ip-adress of the NAS
on your pc open a command prompt (run -> cmd.exe)

in that window type "ping <ip-adress>" where <ip-adress> is the ip-adress of the NAS which is also shown in the display of the NAS
for example
Code:
ping 192.168.1.100

you should get a response like this
Code:
Pingen naar 192.168.1.100 met 32 bytes aan gegevens:
Antwoord van 192.168.1.100 : bytes=32 tijd<1 ms TTL=64
Antwoord van 192.168.1.100 : bytes=32 tijd<1 ms TTL=64
Antwoord van 192.168.1.100 : bytes=32 tijd<1 ms TTL=64
Antwoord van 192.168.1.100 : bytes=32 tijd<1 ms TTL=64

Ping-statistieken voor 192.168.1.100 :
    Pakketten: verzonden = 4, ontvangen = 4, verloren = 0
    (0% verlies).

De gemiddelde tijd voor het uitvoeren van één bewerking in milliseconden:
    Minimum = 0ms, Maximum = 0ms, Gemiddelde = 0ms

If this is not working correct there is something wrong with the ip-adress settings on the NAS

* after this try to open the management interface of the NAS
Open you web-browser and type <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://">http://</a><!-- m --><ip-adress>
for example
Code:
http://192.168.1.100

you must now see the first screen of the Thecus interface with the admin login button (and probably a few other buttons)

If you see the Thecus interface, you can reach the NAS and should be able to use it in your network
If you do NOT get the Thecus interface but some other interface, there is another device that has the same ip-adress (so there is a conflict). You need to change the ip-adress of the NAS first to resolve the conflict.
if you do not get an interface at all, but a 404 page not found, can mean there is an other device with the same ip but has no web-interface (solution: change ip of the NAS) or the Thecus web-interface is not working (call thecus support again)

* next step is to connect explorer to the NASusing ip-adress
in Windows Explorer (not Internet Explorer) type \\<ip-adress>
example
Code:
\\192.168.1.100

now you must get a prompt for a user/password or see the shared content of the NAS
For user you can use "root" and for password you can use the password you set for the NAS

If this is not working, you most likely have not enabled the Samba service on the NAS, enable this service in the management console of the NAS

depending on results other steps can be needed to solve this
