[ How-To ] Mount a remote SMB/CIFS share on your NAS
#1
R&D must activate cifs module in kernel in x64 and x86 (os6)
actually only work on x86 fw v5.03.02 (or use my own build kernel module in next post)

here the process :

Load the CIFS kernel module

Code:
root@127.0.0.1:# modprobe cifs

Mount the remote share in a locale directory

1) create the directory where it will be mounted

Code:
root@127.0.0.1:# mkdir -p /raid/data/test

2 ) launch the mount

Code:
root@127.0.0.1:#mount -t cifs //192.168.1.6/PERSO -o username=nephaste,password=mypassword /raid/data/test

3 ) check the directory

Code:
root@127.0.0.1:#cd /raid/data/test
root@127.0.0.1:/raid/data/test# ls
Doc/               FileZilla.xml*     Licences/          POUR EMMA/         video/
FileZilla2013.xml* images/            MP3/               USB.CFG*           Vrac/

All is ok...

I mounted on my N0503 a share from the N2520

built kernel module to use mount cifs :

for x64 FW 2.04.01 (cdv)

http://www.positiv-it.fr/thecus/download....04.01.tgz

working cdv models :

N2800
N4800/N4800ECO
N4510U (N4510U-R and N4510-S)
N5550
N7510

other x64 model non cdv (not tested)

http://www.positiv-it.fr/thecus/download....04.01.tgz

HOW-TO (in SSH)

1) unpack the .tgz in /raid/data
2) insmod /raid/data/cifs/cfis.ko

example of mount on N2800 to N0503

Install module Kernel

Code:
N2800:~# insmod /raid/data/cifs/cifs.ko

create mount point directory

Code:
N2800:~# mkdir -p /raid/data/test

My mount point is empty

Code:
N2800:~# ls /raid/data/test

I Mount the CIFS Share

Code:
N2800:~# mount -t cifs //192.168.1.5/FTP -o username=nephaste,password=MYPASSWORD /raid/data/test

Now my directory is connected to my Share

Code:
N2800:~# ls /raid/data/test
Applications/        Films/               Mangas/              NZB/
DessinAnimee/        Jeux/                N8800_SMBFS_1.00.00/ Series/

2) insmod /raid/data/cifs/cfis.ko

Didn't work on my N5550:

Code:

insmod: can't insert '/raid/data/cifs/cifs.ko': invalid module format

I don't know if it could help , but I have wrote a tutorial about this for a N4200 (i am not really sure) of a friend a little more than a year (before I have my own thecus !) :
<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://sam.web.free.fr/blog/?p=1359">http://sam.web.free.fr/blog/?p=1359</a><!-- m -->

It is in French and it was for giving access to the Nas of a Freebox (an Adsl box with a Nas in France) from the Internet
Hope it help.
I will try shortly on my own nas... asap

Hi Sam,

yes this works fine on any SMB/CIFS server (Freebox also), on OS5 the CIFS module is embedded just need to be loaded with a "modprobe", concerning the x64 you need first update firmware to 2.04.01 and load the kernel module with "insmod"
command line (it was not compiled in the firmware).

Hi Qoolbox
I can't wait to know , so I tried.
I confirm the problem on N5550 :
insmod /raid/data/cifs/cifs.ko
insmod: can't insert '/raid/data/cifs/cifs.ko': invalid module format

I contact you by email .... to manage to fix it !
