a Hybrid RAID option, as for example SHR or X-RAID

With Synology SHR or Netgear X-RAID(2), you can mix multiple and different sized disks as one raid set (including 1 or 2 disk redundancy) with minimum loss of unused space.
You can later on replace one, or more, lower size disk with a larger one and raid volume is automatically expanded.

For example.
I've 2x3TB, 2x2TB and 1x1TB and want to use them all, without multiple RAID sets in one NAS.
In time I want to replace a smaller disks with a larger one, without replacing them all with equal sized disks.

RAID5 (1 disk redundancy): 4TB usable, 1TB redundancy, 6TB loss
SHR or XRAID (1 disk redundancy): 8TB usable and 3TB redundancy.

RAID6 (2 disk redundancy): 3TB usable, 2TB redundancy, 6TB loss
SHR2 (2 disk redundancy): 5TB usable, 4TB redundancy, 2TB loss
