FTP Client with a GUI
#1
would love my NAS to have a FTP CLient with GUI, yes i know it has a FTP server, but i often need to download files from remote servers via ftp to my home location.
So i still have to download these files on my PC, would be nice to do so from my NAS.

I know it's an easy answer, but how about developing a module about this?

Actually I'm encouraging developers to look at the wishlist section of the forum during the module competition, they are a lot of good ideas there and we just can't develop every functions we wish since it would requires hundreds of developpers Sad

Another solution (maybe not satisfying) you can download via FTP on your PC client on an iSCSI target, to this way everything would be safe on your NAS.

Thankyou for the reply. module development is somthing i may have a look at in the very near future, the second option requires me to leave the pc running , i do download using my pc client to a samba share on the nas unit, but im wishing for a full standalone nas solution, one which allows me to be "eco" friendly which is code for "cheap skate" on my electricty bill by turning my pc off. lol

some sort of FTP client with GUI and a mutliple simultanous connection option to maximise connection speeds would be nice, HINT HINT to all you module developers out there Smile

With such an username I should have guessed you are eco-friendly :d

I think integrating a FTP client might not be that hard for an experience developer, let's wait and see Smile

you may need a FXP option server on the FTP module... to make transfert ftp to ftp... i think the module pureftp made by peterfu is able to do it.

Yes i run that module, and yes it supports the FXP protocol but you still require a FTP client to initiate the server to server transfer.

The aim to to allow the entire process to operate from the NAS unit only, bypassing 3rd party machines, hence why a FTP client would be a great idea Smile

I had a look at net2ftp http://www.net2ftp.com/, it is a set of php scripts. It fails with an error that the FTP module is not installed for PHP. Does anyone know how easy it is to add modules to PHP?

probably require a completely new updated php module for the unit m8, then root acess to install your dependencies to php and possibly a complete path re-write to modify it to the NAS path structure.

Could be wrong but it would be a pain in the arse Smile

Maybe sombody with php experiance could comment, but possiblly best to keep this on topic and create a new topic in the relevant subject category.
