N4100PRO maximum capacity
#1
I've been running my N4100PRO with two 6T HGST drives for about a year, leaving two bays empty.

What, if any, capacity expansion opportunities do I have?  Is it at maximum capacity now?

Without digging through all the documentation,..
1) 4TB drives are the largest that model can use, per the HDD/SDD list for that machine;
2) depending on which file system (and RAID type) and block size you specified when you created the RAID, you should be able to have up to 16TB storage.

Before I had installed the pair of 6T drives, I had run across somebody who had posted that it did (or should) work with those, so I rolled the dice on the drives and the last firmware for the N4100PRO seems to handle it OK.

The HDD/SDD compatibility list for the N4100PRO is fairly old, so I'm not surprised that 6T drives are not listed.

Thanks for the info.

Well, in that case, 4x6TB = 24TB, if you set it up as JBOD.  EXT4 is good up to 1EiB - not that you'd be able to get 4 HDDs that would add up to that, at least in the near future.

Dear Sir,

Due N4100PRO is X32 bit OS, thus each EXT4 RAID/JBOD volume support up to 16TB only, as FW release note listed for your reference:

I have now installed two 8T drives (HGST Deskstar NAS 3.5" 8TB 7200 RPM 128MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 0S04012) in my N4100Pro and it seems to be working OK.

I had two 6T drives in service, RAID1.  Pulled out a 6T, inserted an 8T, let it rebuild: 22 hours.  Repeated for the other 6T/8T, another 22 hours.  Then

Storage
RAID Management
Edit
Expand

It warned it might take hours, but it was less than a minute to expand the RAID1 from 6T to 8T.

Firmware V5.03.02.8
