8TB HDD Support (ST8000VN0004 vs ST8000VN0022)
#1
So I am curious about the HCL... 8TB HDDs for the N7510. With WDC it's easy... Just get the WD80EFZX.

But with Seagate it can be a "mess".

So for example the HCL (dated 2016-12-28) supports the Seagate IronWolf 8TB HDD (ST8000VN0004).

But my suppliers lists the IronWolf 8TB HDD as ST8000VN0022. In fact all Seagate 10TB Ironwolf HDDs sold in AU have that part code that ends on 0022. It seems you CANNOT buy the 0004.

So is the 0022 supported?

Is that difference in the last 2 digits significant?

Searching in Google "ST8000VN0004 versus ST8000VN0022" does not yield anything useful with just a handful of hits on a single results page.

However if I go to the QNAP link: https://www.qnap.com/en/compatibility/?m...category=1 and filter on Seagate 8TB HDDs both the 0004 and 022 are listed.

However there is a note with the 022 which says:

"As suggested by certain hard disk drive providers, the hard disk drives of the same brand and series are collectively recognized as compatible with QNAP products if the largest-capacity drive has passed the compatibility test."

Which suggests a minor firmware revision???

TIA

Dear Sir,

The ST8000VN0022 almost finish compatibility test already, thus we will add ST8000VN0022 on list around end of JAN or early Feb.
