USB 3 Adapter Query - ridgedale - 08-08-2018

Does anyone know whether or not it is possible to install a USB 3 adapter in the PCIe 8x slot to facilitate faster data transfers to a USB 3 external drive, rather than using USB 2?

Dear Sir,

Would you please specify detail NAS model name or serial number to confirm the NAS model for you first?

Hi Yvon,
Thank you for your reply.

Currently the NAS is an N7700Pro configured with 9x 2Tb 2TB Hitachi HDS72202 SATA (Firmware: JKAO) drives (2x spares) in a RAID 6 configuration (purchased April 2010 - 1x failed drive replaced under warranty (within first two months)).

Enable Scheduled On/Off

Action  Time  Action  Time
Sunday:
None  00:00  Power Off  23:00
Monday:
Power On  05:55  Power Off  23:00
Tuesday:
Power On  05:55  Power Off  23:00
Wednesday:
Power On  05:55  Power Off  23:00
Thursday:
Power On  05:55  Power Off  23:00
Friday:
Power On  05:55  Power Off  23:00
Saturday:
Power On  05:55  None  00:00

Serial Number:  (Can't get at it is it is on the back of the unit)
Firmware Version:  5.03.00.7

I'm planning to backup all the data to an external Thunderbolt/USB3.0 G|Drive.
Then upgrade the NAS to N7700Pro v2 that I already purchased the 64bit DOM upgrade kit for over 3 years ago.
Add 9x 4Tb Seagate IronWolf SATA drives (2x spares) or 9x 4Tb Hitachi Deskstar SATA drives (2x spares).
Then reconfigure the RAID and restore all the data from the external drive.

The only issue I have with the N7700Pro is the LED on the front of the unit no longer works.

Having initially enquired about the possibility of installing a USB 3.0 adapter it would also be worth knowing whether or not a thunderbolt adapter could also be installed to increase the data transfer rate even further.

Hopefully that provides sufficient information for your purposes.
