  The RAID array collapsed.
Posted by: AlexKasatkin - 04-09-2018, 12:58 AM - Forum: N5550 - Replies (2)

I'm using an N5550 with
I have a RAID5 setup with five disks - 4 disks are combined in RAID5 and one in hot-swappable mode.
The access to the data on the network has disappeared.
I decided to check the disks for bad blocks.
On all discs launched "Start Scan Blokk"
For a long time the discs were checked.
The state of the RAID array has become "Destroyed"
Restarted the NAS.
The status of the RAID array is "Building: 0.0%" and does not change over time.
You can not see the piles of the array either.

Tell me how to restore the work of NAS?
And that my data is all gone?

Active Directory Share Folder User ACl login with space not working
Posted by: ruimota - 03-26-2018, 10:19 PM - Forum: N4910U/N4910UPRO - Replies (3)

We have 5 Thecus Linux NAS and recently we received 2 new N4910U-R.
These 2 new systems have a problem on the Shared Folder USER ACL, when editing permission for Active directory users with space on the login name.
For example:

Share Folder - TEST
Username1 (active directory): andrew neville
Username2 (Active directory): John.Smith

After aplying READ or WRITE or DENY a message informs "Success Edit Folders Sucessful" but no permissions are saved on Username1.

This error does not happen on the Thecus Linux NAS with older firmware

Both systems have the following Firmware:
N4910U-R version: 3.02.03

Is there any workaround or fix for these issues?

wie kann ich in Erfahrung bringen, ob es in Planung ist, daß THECUS NAS-Geräte als ROON Server benutzt werden können.
Für QNAP und SYNOLOGY gibt es bereits diesbgl. eine APP.

  Bad performance N5550
Posted by: commy - 03-25-2018, 06:28 PM - Forum: N5550 - Replies (4)

Hi all!

I have a Thecus N5550 and would like to sync 1 TB over Network to it (over SMB interface).

The issue is the bad performance I get. Only 30 MBit can be transfered (around 3,0-3,5 MB per second).

I tried the following to increase the performance:

- LAN connection on PC (1 GBit)
- Network Link aggregation on Thecus (2 x 1 GBit - not only one port than before)
- Stopping all unnecessary services on Thecus Interface
- Firmware Upgrade on Thecus to newest version (

Nothing changed on the bad performance.

Installed are five ST3000VM002 (3 TB Seagate) hdd and at the moment I used 9000 GB of available 11079 GB.

Do you have any idea how to get a better performance?

Raid is healthy but all files gone?
Posted by: Hixbot - 03-25-2018, 11:14 AM - Forum: N5550 - Replies (1)

I have a 10tb drive as JBOD in my first raid volume.  4x4tb Raid 5 in my second raid volume.   Two raid volumes, the jbod 10tb drive is dev/md0, i gave it the identity "Drive 1" and is the "master raid" with all the modules and system folders.

I tried enabling NFS on "drive1" experimented with it and then decided I didn't want it so I removed the nfs share.  I rebooted the NAS and discovered all the data on "drive 1" is gone!  The master raid system folders and modules etc are still there, but my "drive 1" share is empty.
It's like it was all deleted when I removed the NFS share!  Funny thing is as soon as I removed the share I heard the drive start spinning and seeking for like 5 minutes before the removal action finished, I thought it was removing nfs permissions or something, but I guess it was deleting everything!

I had 8 terabytes out of 10 terabytes, now its 6 gigabytes out of 10 terabytes!  Raid volume appears healthy.  of course I'm not going to write any files, because I need to find a way to recover my data.  unfortunately my transmission torrent module automatically wrote a downloads folder as it autostarted on boot up and tried to resume my torrents.

I have backups of alot of the data but not all.   I could use testdisk to recover deleted partitions but that would mean I'd have to remove the drive and add it to a linux computer.  Although, the jbod raid volume is intact on the NAS, and I would lose that also if I removed the drive and installed it on a linux machine.

so I feel like it would make more sense to run testdisk on the NAS directly via commandline.  having trouble building testdisk for the n5550.

any help or advice would be appreciated!

  plex module for n7700SAS
Posted by: Joe_Wulf - 03-09-2018, 08:57 AM - Forum: Thecus Modules - Replies (3)

yes, I know this is an older NAS, but I've had 99.99999% uptime in the past 8 years using it.

It originally had a plex module, years ago.... haven't used it.
I've recently backed up all my data, and successfully upgraded the firmware to v5.03.02.8.
Now that I'm looking for the plex module, it isn't there.  <sigh>

I've checked the Thecus.com support download page for the N7700SAS, and there is no module there for the plex media server.

Where can I get that please?

Thank you.
